| friday 3/28/08
5:36pm - devour feast at the china buffet with roommates and roommate's fiance. they have 23876 plates. i have two. 6:23 - say "thankyou" in chinese to the waiter. in return, the waiter is very disappointed to learn that i cannot answer his excited rambling in chinese. whoops. 7:19 - hole up in room laying scratch violin lines for my new song. they disappoint me. 7:48 - decide to head to the studio for work when i realize nothing much is happening elsewhere. 8:12 - roll into the studio. there are no bands recording or rehearsing. just four of us interns bumming around at the office, watching a history channel special on opiates. i am bored. 8:17 - receive text message from new friend denis, who is excited about getting us mars volta tickets for next week. 8:19 - after further texting, discover that i had just missed denis at the studio. he invites us to an arts festival in delray. i convince rich to take me. we go to delray. 8:57 - arrive in delray. hang out at denis' crib, then a bunch of us head to a record store to hear a teenage pop punk band tear it up. 9:24 - denis and i aimlessly walk around town, following trails of live music, have a beer at dada's. 10:43 - we head back to the apartment. rich is temporarily unable to drive, so we stick around and watch the neighbors do jackass-like stunts on the stairs. nobody dies. 1:51am - rich declares himself "able to drive" and we head back to the studio with denis. this experience is somewhat terrifying, especially when rich exclaims "ooh, this is fun!" while speeding down the highway. nobody dies. 2:26 - interns are still at the studio, and a spontaneous guitar circle evolves in the office. denis and rich set up a rehearsal room and start jamming. 3:12 - i join the jam session, embarrassed at my lack of guitar/bass/drum knowledge. in order to combat this embarrassment, we turn the lights off and have a jam session in the dark. 4:09 - we are not exhausted enough. denis wants pancakes. five of us head to ihop and realize the table next to us is actually louder than the ruckus we are making. we play the penis game to compensate. actually, stephanie is the only one who plays, and i am the only other person who knows how to play. this is ironic in many ways. 5:13 - stephanie wants to see the sun rise on the beach. we pile in the car and drive east. 5:42 - we stumble on the beach and wait for the sun to rise. thanks to daylight savings time, we are very early. we chase each other on the beach, throw coconuts and watch some fishermen prepare for their day's work. 7:14 - the sun rises. it is pretty. we pile in the car and head back to the studio. nobody dies. 7:31 - we clean up the studio, and wonder what on earth to do for the rest of the day. 7:42 - i depart from the studio, and i assume the others do the same. 8:02 - i arrive home and collapse on my bed.
i think i will enjoy this chapter of my life. | | |
| it's cold today. and by cold i mean, arctic in florida is like a hot summer day in michigan. thank goodness i remembered to pack a sweater when i moved here.
the narcoleptic cupcake fanbase is growing. thanks to the wonders of myspace, i now have a set of random high school groupies from seaside, CA. i haven't done a whole lot to promote myself yet, but i put together an EP and have sent it to a few friends. let me know if you'd like one. i also interviewed at a local recording studio for a music production internship, and they offered me one right off the bat. unpaid, but priceless training in an area i'd like to pursue. things are looking up, i suppose.
things that currently occupy my spare time: -listening to indie bands and wishing i could tour a country in a dirty van, too. -veronica mars. this is the only show that i've been able to watch more than one episode of at a time. i am now an addicted fan. i'm gearing towards the end of season two... -joan didion's "we tell ourselves stories in order to live." it really caters to the short attention span. -learning bar chords on the guitar. it would be so much nicer if i had longer fingers. how on earth did i play the piano for 18 years and not injure myself? -jalapeno peppers. -re-reading journal entries from college. remember when i thought getting a C in summer biology was the end of the world? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA is the sound of me laughing at me.
things that don't occupy my spare time: -applying to graduate schools. -building myself an ambitious career. -planning a wedding. -bearing children. -going out on the town to socialize. -being generally useful to society.
oops.

| i'm back in florida. i'm back home. and home has never felt this wonderful. waking up to 80 degrees and sunshine felt amazing. especially with the awful end of my christmas break, it felt like waking from a nightmare.
i'm almost done unpacking, but i've been distracted by enthralling episodes of batman beyond. both my roommates are here now. we start work tomorrow, which no one is ecstatic about, but we'll get back into the drill, and we'll keep having awesome adventures in soflo. here's hoping for an awesome second semester. the principal told me that spring goes by a little quicker than fall because you know what you're doing. unfortunately, this spring i'm adding kindergarten computer class to my lineup. yikes.
i'm honestly a lot happier than i thought i'd be, considering the circumstances. i'm still pretty hurt and very disappointed, but i can see how this is a positive turn in my life. i consider myself a very forgiving and forgetting person, but sometimes enough is enough, and i can't expect change from someone who refuses to meet me halfway. two months ago i had a small taste of what it feels like to be treated well, and i'm looking forward to more of that. someday. soon.
